Friday-night Volvo, two days in the hills and back by Monday — the routes, real costs and the small choices that keep a Himalayan weekend under ₹8,000.

A Himalayan weekend from Delhi works because of the overnight bus: leave Friday night, wake up in the mountains, and be back at your desk on Monday morning. Done right, it costs less than a weekend of eating out in the city.
The routes that work in a weekend
- Kasol and Kheerganga — overnight to Bhuntar or Kasol, one trek day, one night at the hot springs
- McLeodganj and Triund — overnight to McLeodganj, a night on the Triund ridge
- Nag Tibba — overnight to Dehradun, one camp night, back Sunday night
- Rishikesh — five hours by bus or train, easy to do without a day off
- Chopta and Tungnath — a long weekend from Rishikesh with a sunrise summit
What it really costs
- Travel: an AC Volvo from Delhi and back is usually ₹1,500–3,000 depending on the route and season; Deshraah adds it for a flat ₹1,999 both ways on Himachal and Uttarakhand trips
- The trip itself: our weekend treks start around ₹2,900–5,500 per person with camps, meals and a trek leader
- Extras: ₹500–1,000 for snacks, chai and café stops
How to keep it cheap
- Travel in a group of four or more and share rooms (triple sharing is cheapest)
- Book the bus early — Friday-night seats sell out
- Pick fixed-departure dates; private trips cost more
- Avoid long weekends and festival dates, when bus fares jump
- Carry a water bottle and your own snacks for the bus
Leave Monday morning free if you can — Volvos from the hills often arrive in Delhi between 6 and 9 am, and traffic decides the rest.
