Ask anyone in Madhya Pradesh where to eat well and the answer is often Indore. The city is repeatedly ranked among India's cleanest, and its food culture is just as celebrated.
Sarafa Bazaar
By day, Sarafa is a jewellery market. After the shops close in the evening, the same lane turns into a food street, with stalls setting up along the pavement. It usually gets going around 8 or 9 in the evening and stays busy late.
- Bhutte ka kees, a spiced grated-corn dish
- Garadu, fried yam
- Sabudana khichdi and dahi vada
- Jalebi, hot and served with rabri
Chappan Dukan
The name means 56 shops. It is a lane of food stalls and small restaurants where you can taste Indore's snacks in one place, from kachori to sweets. It is more comfortable and better lit than Sarafa, which suits families.
Morning: poha and jalebi
Breakfast in Indore is poha topped with sev and a sweet jalebi on the side. Try it at one of the busy roadside shops.
